Are you a lover of chocolate chips? We are at 1-800-Bakery, and we’re guessing you are too!
We all owe a debt of gratitude to Ruth Graves Wakefield who was the first to use chocolate in chip form in 1937. Wakefield, owner of the Toll House Inn, was making cookies one fateful day when she decided add chunks of a Nestlé chocolate bar into the dough. The cookies were an instant hit! Wakefield reached an agreement in 1939 with Nestlé to add her recipe to the chocolate bar’s packaging in exchange for a lifetime supply of chocolate. In 1941 Nestlé and one or more of its competitors started selling the chocolate in chip (or “morsel”) form. The Nestlé brand Toll House cookies is named for the inn.
There are many different types of chocolate chips readily available. These include: semisweet chocolate chips, bittersweet chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips, mint chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, and milk chocolate chips.
In honor of National Chocolate Chip Day (May 15), we’ve rounded up some of 1-800-Bakery’s fan-favorite goodies that star that tasty, chocolatey morsel. Check them out!
